My Health Journey
Health has always been a relative term for me. While I consider myself a healthy person, I eat mostly whole foods and I do my best to exercise regularly, I was born with a congenital heart defect. Numerous surgeries and multiple blood transfusions that later resulted in my Hepatitis C diagnosis have and will continue to have a lasting impact on my wellbeing. As I entered my 40’s, I started developing symptoms of weight gain, poor sleep, and feelings of depression and mood swings all attributable to Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism and perimenopause. This began a deeper search into what I could do to better my health. After all I was not accepting the “this is part of the normal aging process” line I had heard in the conventional medicine world.
In working with my own CHP, I soon discovered the low fat, low calorie and food pyramid from my 90’s health class was not serving my body well. I began implementing a more balanced nutritional plan and intermittent fasting. I also learned the importance of blood sugar regulation where it concerns my moods and motivation. Health is a never-ending journey. As I honor both God and my body (His craftmanship) by giving it the nutritious food, gentle movement and rest it needs, I also trust that my Creator and Savior will redeem my health too. Finally, I’m learning to give myself grace on this healing journey. It’s not about perfection or attaining goals overnight. It’s about building rhythms for a lifetime of optimal health.

This verse is true of my career choices. I became an echocardiographer and spent almost 25 years serving others in the field of cardiology. As I became more passionate about integrative and holistic health, I wanted to share this knowledge with others also. That is why I became certified as a Christian Health Practitioner. God has graciously walked me through challenging health concerns so that I can share that same comfort and hope with you, my friend.
